Ethiopia Requests Lecturers for New Universities

Nigeria to loan 215 school lecturers through aid corps

Ethiopia has requested 671 university lecturers from Nigeria to provide manpower for the country's planned 22 new universities.The request follows the joint ministerial commission set up between Nigeria and Ethiopia to accelerate political, economic, technical and cultural cooperation and to facilitate contacts between the public and private sectors.However, Nigeria assured Ethiopia that it would provide only 215 lecturers. The deal depends on Nigeria's Technical Aid Corps, of which Ethiopia has been the top recipient.Ethiopia wanted the Nigerian government to provide 671 experts, including 432 lecturers and professors. Assured of 215 volunteers from the Technical Aid Corps, Ethiopia agreed to recruit Nigerian experts to fill the remaining spots, especially high-level positions.The joint ministerial commission was established at the inaugural meeting of the foreign affairs ministers of the two countries, which took place recently in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.The setting up of the commission marked the implementation of an agreement signed between Nigeria and Ethiopia 10 years ago.
