Somalia warlord flees to Ethiopia

ONE OF Somalia's defeated warlords has fled Qura Jome village after Islamic Courts militias reportedly attacked it. Ex-Jowhar warlord Mohamed "Dhere" Omar Habeb was in Qura Jome village for weeks but fled into Ethiopia after he received news of the Islamists' imminent attack.Mohamed Dhere governed Middle Shabelle region for 5 years before Islamist militias expelled him on June 14th. He was a member of a self-styled "anti-terror" group covertly financed by the CIA butultimately lost control of Mogadishu and much of southern Somalia to the popular Islamist movement.Ethiopia is a member of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development that signed a travel ban on Somalia's warlords in a Nairobi meeting on June 13.
