More than 100 people died in flash flooding in eastern Ethiopia early Sunday and another 10,000 were displaced, an aid agency said.
Water from the overflowing Dechatu River hit the town of Dire Dawa in the middle of night while residents were sleeping, said Sisay Tadesse of the government-run Disaster Prevention and Preparedness Agency.
More than 200 homes have been destroyed and highways have been cut off, leaving people stranded, according to local radio reports.
The International Committee for the Red Cross and other organizations were helping the army establish shelters and search for survivors and bodies.
