Farmer Loses Almost $4,000 Hid in Haystack; Rats Got It

A farmer in central Ethiopia has lost $3,804 of $12,591 stashed in a haystack to rats that gnawed through it. The unnamed 52-year-old man said he chose the spot in the event that his house should ever catch fire.

The Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) added that "Though he was advised to deposit his money in a bank, he refused to do so for a long time." It only took three weeks from the time he put the money there before the unfortunate discovery was made.

There was no word on whether or not his stance on banks has changed since the loss.
