Gogol Bordello Bassist Thomas G. Gobena Releasing Solo Album

Gogol Bordello bassist Tommy T will release The Prester John Sessions, his debut solo album, on Nov. 10 through Easy Star Records.

Tommy T's (real name Thomas T. Gobena) disc will be available via iTunes Oct. 13. Tommy T wrote and produced The Prester John Sessions, which was mixed by Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave, Gogol Bordello). The 11-track album features a remix of "Oromo Dub (Cushitic Dub)" featuring Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hutz and percussionist Pedro Erazo.

The Prester John Sessions is described as "an aural travelogue that ranges freely through the music and culture of Ethiopia," according to a press release. Tommy T was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

"In the '70s, funk, wah-wah pedals, and jazz had a huge impact on Ethiopian music," Tommy T says. "The Prester John Sessions will give people an idea about the musical diversity of Ethiopia, which includes influences and ideas borrowed from the sounds of the '70s with the added bonus of up-to-date production values."

Gogol Bordello will release a live CD/DVD, Live From Axis Mundi, Oct. 6.
