President Olusegun Obasanjo, Tuesday, agreed to a request by Ethiopia that more than 600 Nigerian university teachers be sent to it.

Receiving the out-going Ethiopian Ambassador toNigeria, Mr Yohannes Guinda Ginbi, at the State House, Abuja, the President assured that the request would be considered under the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) scheme.

He even made an unsolicited offer, saying experts on cassava would be sent.

In another development, the President declared that the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), was neither an inquisition nor a judicial enquiry, but part of the reforms necessary for transparency and accountability in the country’s business. Obasanjo described the bilateral relations between Nigeria and Ethiopia as “very, very good,” noting that “Nigeria is passing through an interesting reformist period, which we believe we need”. He added that the reforms “results are encouraging”.

Trade between the two countries must be encouraged, he emphasised.

In that regard, Nigeria would consider buying Ethiopian meat and leather products in exchange for its products in the spirit of reciprocity, he added.

In his own remarks, Ginbi said he had learnt a lot from Nigeria’s diversity and complexity during his two-year stay.

Also on Tuesday, Obasanjo bade farewell to the outgoing Ambassador of Cote d’Ivoire to Nigeria, Mr Emile M’Iingui Keffa, who spent nine years of diplomatic service in the country.

Meanwhile, Obasanjo has declared that the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency

Initiative (NEITI) is neither an inquisition nor a judicial enquiry, but part of the reforms necessary for transparent and accountable dealings in the business undertakings of the nation.

He spoke in a meeting with NEITI chiefs and heads of oil companies in the country.
