MARSABIT, Kenya, April 16 (Reuters) - Kenya said on Sunday it had deployed security forces to its northern border to stop a wave of raids from Ethiopian cattle rustlers which has forced hundreds of families to flee their homes.
Violence and cross-border livestock raids are common in Kenya's poor and arid east and north where the mainly pastoral clans fight for scant resources.
Hundreds of soldiers and police began arriving in the area on Saturday after the theft of thousands of livestock and the kidnapping of a woman by Ethiopian raiders last week, local officials say.
At least 2,000 people have fled their homes.
But eastern province deputy police officer Gerald Oluoch said the border with Ethiopia had now been secured.
"There is no reason to worry, we have deployed enough security personnel on the border," he said.
