The discovery is the first of its kind in Ethiopia
Uranium has been discovered in Ethiopia for the first time and the government has now awarded the prospectors responsible a one-year licence to explore the area.
The find was made in the province of Bale in the south-western province of Oromia by two gem-prospectors, said Bloomberg citing the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
A team of geologists from the ministry were sent to the area and subsequently confirmed the discovery.
The prospectors have now been awarded a one-year discovery certificate which allows them to explore 900 km² of land around the site and also approach companies in order to develop the find. (June 9)
