The Eritrean government has just received a large and rather useful prize in its cold war with neighbouring Ethiopia.
Asmara is currently playing host to a very senior Ethiopian army general, who has defected. Brigadier-General Kemal Geltu had commanded the eighteenth Army Division.
The Ethiopians are playing it down, with state television saying that the General defected because he feared military reforms.
