Asmara, 19 October 2006 – A senior Eritrean Foreign Ministry official said that the signing of the peace agreement between the Sudanese Government of National Unity and the East Sudan Front symbolizes the existing good-neighborliness between the peoples of Eritrea and Sudan.Noting the long-standing historical and brotherly relations between the two peoples, the senior official said that the Sudanese people and all its political forces have stood alongside Eritrea during the struggle for liberation. He further pointed out that the care and mediation of Eritrea in the peace dialogue emanates from this historic and moral obligation and does not have any hidden agenda. It is to be recalled that President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir of Sudan said at the signing ceremony of the peace agreement that Eritrea and Sudan would not only work to enhance bilateral relations but also strive for the benefit of the entire region and the continent as a whole.
