By Sher Zieve – On Tuesday the USS Eisenhower was positioned off the coast of Somalia in order to assist Ethiopia and Somalia in its fight against Islamic terrorists, including al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda is reported to have bases in Somalia.
US Lt. Cmdr. Charlie Brown said that the aircraft carrier has been conducting intelligence-gathering missions over Somalia. On Monday, US Special Forces AC-130 gunships conducted at least two strikes against al-Qaeda bases in the country. The US Navy is reported to have provided support in the attacks.
Somalia's interim President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed said that he agreed with the US strikes.
