April 7, 2006 (ADDIS ABABA) — The opposition Oromo National Congress (ONC) said its Secretary General, Bonna Tadesse, was removed from his position.
The Congress told the official ENA on Friday that Bonna was removed from the post after he was repeatedly found communicating with individuals dismissed from the party.
According to the Congress, Bonna, who, unethically leaked the party’s secret, was removed from the position per the statute of the congress during a Executive Committee meeting of the Congress on Friday.
The Congress has decided that the individual shall not undertake any activity on behalf of the party.
The ONC had sacked his former president Merera Gudina from the party accused of “illegal activities” in a letter sent to the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) by the current leadership of the party.
The former president of the ONC, Merara Gudina, was accused of subverting the Oromo people’s political struggle by allying itself with chauvinist forces. Merara says the new faction dictated by OPDO/EPRDF had been engaged in foiling the struggle of the Oromo people.
