Sudan is hosting representatives of the Somali Islamic Courts Union (ICU) and the Somali interim government on Wednesday in an attempt to end the crisis in the country.
Secretary-General of the Arab league ‘Amru Mousa will also be present at the meeting in Sudan, which currently chairs the 22-member Arab League.
The ICU has seized control over the Somali capital Mogadishu and other cities.
The meeting is taking place in the framework of the Arab League’s Special Arab Ministerial Council in Somalia.
Over the past few months more than 300 people have been killed in violent clashes in Somalia between the ICU and warlords, who are said to have the backing of the United States. The country has not had an effective government in place since 1991.
