Addis Ababa –Ethiopian President Girma Woldegiorgis on Wednesday said that bilateral ties with Yemen should be enhanced through further co-operation.
The president said that the two countries should look at enhancing friendly ties by increasing co-operating efforts across several sectors.
Girma, talking to departing Yemeni ambassador to Ethiopia, Al Amin Mohammed Al Yusufi, said that co-operation between members of the Sana'a Forum, consisting of Ethiopia, Yemen and a number of other countries, needed to be strengthened.
The president believed that co-operation efforts in the area of ensuring peace and stability in the region would promote trade and investment between member states, which would lead to growth.
However, both countries have issues with Eritrea. Ethiopia was in a border dispute, while Yemen protests the fishing by Eritrean fisherman around the Hanish Islands. The islands were awarded to Yemen in 1999 by the International Court of Justice.
Al Yusufi said that economic ties between the two countries had grown well during his four-years in Ethiopia.
